For stereo sources I set up a larger array of loudspeakers surrounding the audience both near and far. The set-up is designed for each specific room to take advantage of near, mid and far audience proximities, elevation if possible, room acoustics and loudspeaker characteristics. My stereo diffusion technique follows strongly in the European loudspeaker orchestra performance tradition. This is a performance practice that has evolved since the 1950s. I have been performing since 1994 over loudspeaker orchestras consisting of between 12 and 54 loudspeakers and continue to perform regularly throughout the world. I guess all diffusion performers have a technique or method. For me the starting point is to learn the music, create graphic diffusion scores as a memory aid, and to mentally rehearse the diffusion away from the concert space as if the space allowed a complete and continuous sound-field.
For multichannel sources I normally design a set of multi-channel layers that can be controlled in performance
I perform my own and other composers' works.
Installations and performance art:
When I set up a sound installation the idea is to leave the work running without my needing to be there. Each installation is site-specific, taking advance of space, room acoustic and audience relationship. For more information see the installations section of these pages.
