Earlier this year I bought an Ultrasonic micrcophone. I'm interested in recording naturally occurring and manmade sound sources in frequency ranges above that of our hearing, then to find ways to use these recordings as source material for an electroacoustic composition. Ultrasonic sound will be transposed into the audible range to discover what it there. I will also statistically analyse the sound for patterns and trends that can be used as control for musical structures.
So far I have recorded the obvious bats (which are in super fun to listen to when they home in on an insect!), insects, walkers and bikes on gravel, some industrial machines and home appliances.
